Practice

Last night Brett and I went over to a friend's house. They have a two year old named Jacob and a 2 month old named Andrew. I love getting together with Dave and Maris. They are great and their sons are adorable. I used to tell Brett that if he didn't want to have kids at the moment, he would need to stop seeing his best friend. Jacob is definitely NOT birth control.

When we got there, Jason and Dave were playing ping pong and Jacob was running around them. I sat down on the garage steps and started playing fetch with Jacob. He would run over to me, throw this little orange ball at me, and then run to the other side of the garage. I kept telling him to go long. He absolutely loved it. Sometimes he got distracted and ran over to his dad so that he could throw his ball at Dave's ping pong paddle. I wish I had thought to take some pictures. I will try next time we get together.

Maris had just finished feeding Andrew and wanted to eat dinner. She tried to get Dave to take his son, but Dave wanted to continue playing. I decided to take Andrew from her. I thought it would be good practice. I held Andrew who was content as long as I was standing and rocking him and played fetch with Jacob. It proved to be a little difficult at times, especially because Jacob insisted on throwing the ball to me instead of just handing it over. His throws weren't really consistent (he is 2 years old!) so I ended up scrambling for the ball while holding Andrew or asking my wonderful husband for help. I really enjoyed myself. It really made me long for my own kids.

At points during the night Brett held Andrew too. He wasn't as comfortable with it as I was, but it was great practice for him as well. He is good with Jacob too. I really look forward to a time when I can see him holding our little baby.

Babies are such a joy. I highly recommend boys, myself. Our boys are such little lovers and so well behaved. We're lucky to be their parents.

That's good you're getting practice.

Glad you enjoyed your time with the little ones. Get all the practice you can, because you are never prepared for all the situations that come up with your own little ones.
