The most horrible day ever...

I am subbing this week for a teacher who is teaching summer school. I seriously thought about teaching it as well, but decided against it because of our move. I thought it would be better to have more time to pack, plus I wanted my vacation. Anyway, when Jodi sent an email out asking for a sub for this week, I thought why not?

I wish I hadn't.

Oh man. I seriously feel bad for the teachers who have been doing this for five weeks. The classes are small, but they are filled with the kids who don't care, have attitude problems, and are struggling (obviously!) It is a REALLY hard group. One example is today two Hispanic girls got in a verbal fight. I told them that I am 24 and one girl exclaimed, "That's how old my mom is!" (Just so you know, this girl is 10-11 years old...) So another girl called her mother a name in Spanish, which I assume means something like whore. They started yelling and swearing at each other in Spanish. It was not like anything I had experienced before.

Anyway, my first two days have not gone well, but they aren't the most horrible day ever...which leads me to my title. One of the better students came into class today and explained, "This is my most horrible day ever!" and sat down exasperated on her chair. I asked her what had happened and she explained to me that her mother had accidentally put her socks in a load with bleach and turned them a brownish color.

That was it.

The most horrible day ever! I wish my horrible days were something so small and meaningless. Don't you just want to be a kid again sometimes?
